Borneo: The World Within
We all have this need time and again, for a total reset. A need to get away from the rigmarole. And sometimes, getting away and doing something differently, exploring a new landscape, is just what we need. Ergo: Borneo. On your customizable adventure in Borneo you will reset your gears as you spend time and learn from different indigenous communities, sleep amid the wilderness and canoe down rivers, and of course, meet the local wildlife that is unique to Borneo.
Journey into the jungles, lush rainforests, and national parks, with diverse landscapes and caves, and meander down scenic rivers and through the traditional villages of this beautiful region.
Encounter some of Borneo’s most spectacular wildlife as you search for orangutans, probosci’s monkeys, slow loris, Irrawaddy dolphins, the majestic pygmy elephants’ small Bornean sun bears, and wake up to the call of the Bornean gibbon or hornbills and macaques.
And meet the Iban people who have called these rainforests home for 400 years with entire villages living under one roof in longhouses built alongside the river. Hidden away from the modern world, these communities have retained centuries-old traditions.
On this journey, we offer the alternative to the otherwise staged form of cultural tourism found in these areas. Our partners have created, along with the local Iban people, the Ulu Ai Project that forges a sustainable partnership between hosts and you, the visitors, whereby you experience the local lifestyle on the host’s terms.
The focus is therefore on society and the environment rather than performances. This benefits hosts, visitors, and local wildlife too. When you visit the Ulu Ai you are guests of the longhouse dwelling Iban people.
And then you can swap the jungle and wilds for a dose of Borneo’s heavenly coast too!
Sandy beaches, abundant marine life, and relaxation! Borneo’s waters are home to exotic coral reefs, whale sharks, different turtle species, and even a labyrinth of tunnels and caves. Snorkeling and diving are a must! Maybe you might even meet a sea gypsy or two!
Of course, if you’re feeling a lot more adventurous and fit, you could hike up Mount Kinabalu and enjoy some time in the hot springs along the way too.
