On the Path to Happiness in Bhutan
For hundreds of years, the Trans-Bhutan trail was used by pilgrims, messengers, armies and traders. It played a major role in uniting the region’s many provinces, repelling foreign incursions, fostering the birth of Bhutan as a nation in 1907.
In fact, until the 1960s, it was the only way to travel and communicate with others across the country. And now, it has found a new life for an age of adventure and connection.
Not only has the Trail allowed the Bhutanese to again walk in the footsteps of their ancestors to rediscover generations’ worth of stories and history, it also highlights the Kingdom’s core principles concerning the environment and sustainable development. As you cross this trail, you will get an intimate view of one of the most well preserved cultures and environments of the world. Remember. Bhutan is the only carbon negative country as of now.
When you walk or cycle and immerse yourself in the magic of this trail, with us, you are immersing yourself in generations’ worth of stories, maximising your contribution to research, education and community development supported by the official Trail organisation, enabling your children to not just be storehouses of knowledge but being creators of new knowledge and solutions.
You will connect with each other, connect with nature, connect with something bigger than us all and you will connect with Bhutan, one step at a time.
This itinerary has been specially designed and curated for Ubuntu, with our partners, the Trans Bhutan Trail are a not-for-profit tourism initiative. Their profits go back into the trail and the communities that live along it.
